Executive Summary: Smart DevTools operates entirely client-side. The extension processes all code, network inspections, runtime logs, and browser storage locally on your device. No personal data, browsing history, source code, or network traffic is ever collected, transmitted to remote servers, or shared with third parties.

1. Information Collection and Processing

Smart DevTools is engineered as an on-device developer utility. It does not maintain remote backend databases, user tracking servers, or telemetry collection endpoints.

Network Traffic and Request Payloads: Network data inspected via the Network Tab is captured strictly within your local browser process via the Chrome DevTools Protocol. This data is held in temporary browser memory and is discarded upon tab closure or detachment.
Console Logs and Runtime Diagnostics: Application errors, warnings, and evaluation statements are monitored strictly for your live debugging session. They are not transmitted externally.
Storage and Cookies: Cookie, LocalStorage, SessionStorage, and IndexedDB data viewed or modified within the Application Tab remain inside your local browser sandbox.
Captured Visuals and Code Snippets: Screenshot captures and CSS or component extractions reside in local browser memory until saved directly to your local file system by user action.

2. Use of Chrome Extension Permissions

Smart DevTools requests specific technical permissions strictly necessary to deliver developer tooling functionality:

debugger: Required to attach the Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) to the active tab to analyze network waterfall events, inspect console diagnostics, and monitor client performance metrics.
activeTab & <all_urls>: Required to inject the developer dashboard and style inspector into the document requested by the user.
cookies: Used exclusively to allow developers to view, modify, and delete session and persistent cookies during local debugging.
storage: Used solely to persist your local preferences (such as dock position, theme, and custom CSS overrides) across browser sessions using chrome.storage.local.
downloads: Utilized exclusively when the user manually initiates a full-page screenshot capture or export file download.

3. Third-Party Services and Analytics

Smart DevTools contains zero third-party advertising frameworks, tracking beacons, or behavioural analytics scripts. The extension does not sell, rent, monetize, or disclose any user data to data brokers, commercial partners, or advertising platforms.

If you purchase a commercial license through our merchant of record (Lemon Squeezy), standard license key validation requests are transmitted securely over TLS directly between your browser and the merchant licensing API solely to authenticate license status. No browsing context or inspected code is included in licensing requests.

4. Data Retention and Security

All operational data generated during an inspection session is ephemeral. When you close the Smart DevTools dashboard or navigate away from the inspected tab, all session caches are purged from memory.

User-defined configurations, such as custom CSS rules or Element Zapper selectors, are stored on your local drive through Chrome's native storage API and may be cleared at any time via extension settings or Chrome browser settings.
